 • MSDE upgrade issues

Posted by pvScott at 2006-05-08 03:28 PM
Hi Specifiers- I have received error messages on some computers when trying to upgrade MSDE to SP4. The final message is "Unable to run script files" and the log ends with "MSI (c) (58:A8) [13:16:10:545]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine -- Configuration failed." What do I do now??

Paul,

Do you have administrator permissions on these machines? Also, what operating system(s) are giving you trouble?

CJ -

I do have local admin rights on all of our machines. They are all XP sp2.

Can you send me the log file? It is a little too big to post on the forum so you can just email it to me at: cjgrady@ku.edu.

Thanks,

CJ

CJ -

In the end it seems to be a non-issue. I have been able to install Specify 5.0 successfully on both of the machines where the error message occurred. We are running SQL server, not MSDE, but were following the install instructions of upgrading MSDE before installing Specify 5.0. I will email the log to you.

Paul
