 • How to tell if you should upgrade your server

If you are unsure if you have MSDE or SQL Server 2000 or you want to know if you have service pack 4 installed you can check by opening Add/Remove programs from the control panel.

Look through the list of programs installed on your machine, if you see "Microsoft SQL Server 2000" you have the full version. If you see "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (Specify)" then you have MSDE.

You can check if you have Service Pack 4 installed or not by selecting either of the previously discussed entries and clicking the "Click here for support information" link. The version number will be displayed.

8.00.2039 is service pack 4
8.00.760 is service pack 3 or 3a
8.00.534 is service pack 2
8.00.384 is service pack 1
8.00.194 is the base distribution

If you have any questions about this contact us and we will help you through the upgrade process.
